What Dr. Jenkins Likes Most About Being a Dentist

WHAT MADE YOU DECIDE TO BECOME A DENTIST, AND HOW OLD WERE YOU?

I was in third grade when I first became interested in being a dentist. After multiple visits to my orthodontist, Dr. Steffen, I really thought it was cool. In high school, I had an assignment to research a possible future career and write a paper. I chose dentistry, and that really helped me pinpoint that it was the career for me!

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN PRACTICING?

I graduated from the University of Oklahoma College of Dentistry in 2008 with Dr. Spurlock. I have been practicing for a little over 7 years. During that time, I have had the opportunities to work with children, in public health, and in private practice.

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO SOMEONE CONSIDERING A CAREER IN DENTISTRY?

Dentistry is a great career. I would advise someone to make sure that he/she is the type of person who truly loves to learn. Dentistry is constantly evolving, and, in order to be excellent, a person must be committed to continuous learning. Anyone wanting a dental career should make contacts with as many dental professionals as possible and ask questions!
